Yuri hat sein gesamtes Leben in der Cité Gagarine verbracht, einem Hochhauskomplex aus den 1960ern im Randbezirk von Paris. Wie der Namensgeber der Sozialsiedlung träumt Yuri davon, eines Tages ins All abzuheben und der Tristesse zu entfliehen. Doch als Pläne bekannt werden, das Viertel abzureißen, schließt er sich dem Widerstand an. Gemeinsam mit seinem Freund Houssam und seiner Nachbarin Diana macht er sich daran, Gagarine zu retten - und verwandelt seine Wohnung in eine Raumstation.

Gagarin tells the story of Youri (Alseni Bathily), the good soul of a neighborhood who clings to the idea and memories of living together in solidarity until it is no longer possible. Youri is the self-appointed janitor of a 1960s housing estate in the suburbs of Paris called Gagarin. Although he and his friends try their hardest, they cannot prevent the city from deciding that the estate should be demolished. One by one, everyone moves away, only Youri has decided to stay. First Youri makes new friends. The Roma girl Diana (Lyna Khoudri, The French Dispatch) is fascinated by his reclusiveness and the dealer Dali (Finnegan Oldfield, Corsage) also lives somewhere in the building complex. But then Diana's family's illegal settlement is broken up by the city. And Dali also disappears after a violent confrontation with the construction workers who are sealing up Gagarin and preparing it for demolition. As the last inhabitant, Youri lives in the settlement as if in a spaceship. Youri knows that he has maneuvered himself into a dead end and that his surroundings are becoming increasingly hostile. But Youri is stubborn, he wants to complete his mission like a parabolic flight and so he works on a countdown, at the end of which the high-rise settlement Gagarin is supposed to call for help for him. Unfortunately, another countdown is counting down from 10 to 0.
