VIENNA CALLING zeigt die zahlreichen Facetten der Wiener Kulturszene, weit abseits des Mainstreams. In der europäischen Metropole kommen diverse Künstler:innen zusammen, die den städtischen Raum einnehmen, den sie brauchen. Doch er wird immer enger. Dieser Film ist ein Doku-Musical über den Nährboden des Wien-Musik-Hypes, der seit einigen Jahren stattfindet. Die Protagonist:innen – darunter Der Nino aus Wien, Lydia Haider und Voodoo Jürgens – haben sichtbar Freude am Spiel. VIENNA CALLING bietet ihnen eine weitere, filmische Bühne, die sie lustvoll entern und darauf ein Schauspiel mit viel Schmäh aufführen. Nach dem Motto “Let the music do the talking” sprechen hier vor allem die Songs.

VIENNA CALLING shows the many facets of the Viennese cultural scene, far from the mainstream. In the European metropolis, diverse artists come together to occupy the urban space they need. But it is becoming increasingly cramped. This film is a docu-musical about the breeding ground of the Vienna music hype that has been going on for several years. The protagonists - including Der Nino aus Wien, Lydia Haider and Voodoo Jürgens - are visibly enjoying themselves. VIENNA CALLING offers them a further cinematic stage, which they enter with relish and perform a play with plenty of humor.
